Ring warming means the bands leave your hand and travel through the guests before the exchange. People hold them for a second. That is the whole idea. It fails when the rings are still in row four during the pronouncement. This sample plans the handoff.
Alex and Maria are fictional. So is anyone else named on this page.
262 spoken words. At 130 words a minute, that is 2 minutes 1 second. Stage directions are not in that count.

Welcome
Welcome. The rings are going to move through you. When they reach your hand, hold them, wish them well in whatever language you use, and pass them on. Please do not try them on. Please do not pocket them, even as a joke.
Their story
Alex bought the rings on a lunch break and then worried for a week that the size was a guess. It was a guess. Maria’s fit. His was resized by a jeweler who did not comment. That restraint deserves a mention.
Send the rings
Start them at the back row during the story, not after the vows. Ask one calm person to be the courier.
I am handing the rings to Samir, in the back, now. Samir, start them down the left side. If they stall, walk them to the next person. We need them home before I run out of things to say, and I do run out.
Vows
Keep an eye on the rings without narrating every row.
While those circles find their way back, Alex, do you take Maria as your spouse? Will you keep the guesswork for the small things, and be exact about the ones that hurt?
Wait for: I do.
Maria, do you take Alex as your spouse? Will you tell him when you need a clearer sentence, and trust him with the ones he gets right?
Wait for: I do.
The rings come back
If they are late, pause. Do not pretend. "We are waiting for the rings" is a fine sentence.
The rings are here, warmer than they left, which is the idea and also just hands. Alex, place Maria’s ring. Maria, place Alex’s ring. The size is right. We checked.
Pronouncement
You are married, with a room full of people who held the proof for a moment and gave it back. Kiss.
Close
Thank you for passing them on. If you are still holding a ring, now is the time to look horrified and bring it up.
What to change
- Pick the courier in advance. "Someone in the back" is how rings miss the exchange.
- Start the pass during the story, not after the vows.
- Tell guests not to try the rings on. Say it with a smile, and mean it.
- Have a backup plan: the best man holds a spare, or you simply wait and say so.
Questions
How long does a ring warming take?
In a room of eighty, longer than you think. Start early, and ask one person to keep the rings moving.
What if a guest does not want to participate?
They pass the box on. Say that in the welcome so nobody has to invent a refusal.
Is this religious?
Not by itself. It is a way for guests to touch the rings before the exchange. Add a blessing only if the couple asked.
